Semi-sharp subdivision surface fitting based on feature lines approximation

چکیده
This paper presents an algorithm for approximating arbitrary polygonal meshes with subdivision surfaces, with the objective of preserving the relevant features of the object while searching the coarsest possible control mesh. The main idea is to firstly extract the feature lines of the object, and secondly construct the subdivision surface over this network. Control points are created by approximating these lines while the connectivity is built with respect to the anisotropy of the object. Our algorithm reinforces the similarity between the subdivision surface and the original shape by affecting an integer sharpness degree to each control edge in order to accurately reproduce the different curvature radii of corresponding fillets and blends. & 2009 Elsevier Ltd. Fitting Sharp Features with Loop Subdivision Surfaces
Various methods have been proposed for fitting subdivision surfaces to different forms of shape data (e.g., dense meshes or point clouds), but none of these methods effectively deals with shapes with sharp features, that is, creases, darts and corners. We present an effective method for fitting a Loop subdivision surface to a dense triangle mesh with sharp features. Our contribution is a new ex...
متن کاملSubdivision Surface Fitting from a Dense Triangle Mesh
This article presents a new and direct approach for fitting a subdivision surface from an irregular and dense triangle mesh of arbitrary topological type. All feature edges and feature vertices of the original mesh model are first identified. A topologyand feature-preserving mesh simplification algorithm is developed to further simplify the dense triangle mesh into a coarse mesh. A subdivision ...
متن کاملSharp feature preserving MLS surface reconstruction based on local feature line approximations
Sharp features in manufactured and designed objects require particular attention when reconstructing surfaces from unorganized scan point sets using moving least squares (MLS) fitting. It’s an inherent property of MLS fitting that sharp features are smoothed out. Instead of searching for appropriate new fitting functions our approach computes a modified local point neighborhood so that a standa...

We present a novel method for high-performance GPU based rendering of Catmull-Clark subdivision surfaces. Unlike previous methods, our algorithm computes the true limit surface up to machine precision, and is capable of rendering surfaces that conform to the full RenderMan specification for Catmull-Clark surfaces. Specifically, our algorithm can accommodate base meshes consisting of arbitrary v...
متن کاملSurface interpolation of meshes by geometric subdivision
Subdivision surfaces are generated by repeated approximation or interpolation from initial control meshes. In this paper two new nonlinear subdivision schemes, face based subdivision scheme and normal based subdivision scheme, are introduced for surface interpolation of triangular meshes. With a given coarse mesh more and more details will be added to the surface when the triangles have been sp...
